St Thomas of Canterbury RC Primary school had a great space for a library, but it hadn't been updated for many years. The room was uninspiring with out of date books and shelving that wasn't fit for purpose.
The school's year 6 teacher and English lead was determined to create a school library that the children would love. She worked closely with ABC to design the room, and even came in over the summer holidays to help with the construction.
The result is a beautiful jungle safari library, with a Savannah landscape, grass flooring and bespoke signage. The children created a brilliant mood board for ABC to work from which gave us plenty of scope to get creative.
Over 1000 books fill the shelves, along with a collection of brand new diverse and inclusive books gifted by one of our partners.
The library was officially blessed and opened by the parish priest, and the children wasted no time settling down on the cushions with a book and reading, just as they are always meant to do.
