With the years of service for the Senior Leadership team at Howard totalling more than 150 years, we knew that the legacy library project for the retiring head teacher had to be something special.
Tasked with embracing and honouring the school's namesake, Lord Howard of Effingham who was Lord High Admiral to Queen Elizabeth I, we decided that an explorer theme would be an exciting way of bringing their library to life. Inspired the school's emblem of an Elizabethan ship and by the class names reflective of the bridges over the River Thames, we commissioned a unique piece of artwork featuring all the elements that are important to the school.
The result was a vibrant room, full of nautical touches from the rugs to the cushions, and an incredible wooden chair hand crafted by the current Chair of Governors and ex-headteacher at the school himself.
The children didn't waste any time getting stuck into the books clearly delighted with their brand new reading room.
