Good Shepherd

A well-lit space to the side of the main hall had the potential to become the most amazing reading space in the heart of the school. Instead it was unloved and full of outdated books with nowhere for children to relax and read. When the Head Teacher asked for ABC's help, we could see the difference we could make to the area - but the question was how to keep it a secret from the children until it was ready!

The answer was to build the new space during the summer holidays and launch the new library at an assembly on the very first day back to school. In a feat of secrecy - which involved a rigged tarpaulin covering the new library from their eyes - the new reading room was revealed to great excitement from the children. When they left school in July there were some jumbled bookshelves and no seating, but in September a Rainforest themed library greeted them, complete with artwork with hidden author quotes, colourful tree shapes, soft rugs and cushions.

We loved working on this project with the school team, and know that this area of the school will remain the most popular place to be, inspiring a love of reading in the pupils for years to come.
