What's in a name? Well everything really. It's big changes here at ABC HQ. After 4 years as Acorn Book Club, it's time for us to stand alone and become our own fully independently run charity and become ABC Book Club.
So why the change? Due to an adjustment in sponsorship it's become necessary to emerge from beneath the wings of The Acorn Group who have nurtured and invested and grown the charity over the past 4 years. With considerable support from The Acorn Group's new owners we have agreed it's time for ABC to stand alone as its own fully independent charity with responsibility for all fundraising, operations and service delivery.
Exciting and scary in equal measure...
Setting up every operational function the charity needs has been a challenge, a steep learning curve and an education! There's been so many things to consider - do we need HR? What about the Charity Commission? Is changing the bank account necessary and what impact will it have? As we reach the end of November with nearly everything in place we are excited about what the future holds. With LRG guaranteeing operational funding for the next two years it's up to us to maximise this opportunity to grow and develop our strategy.
The future for the charity looks increasingly bright as we not only continue with our work in local schools - donating 1000s of books every month and building beautiful libraries at an increasing rate - but also that we take on different partnerships and forge new relationships in the local community.
The need for ABC and the recognition of what we do is becoming increasingly apparent and I can't wait along with the charity's trustees to steer ABC through the next phase of growth.
